The short version

Autocue listens to a job interview and writes what to say next. That means it handles something personal: a recording of you being assessed, and often of somebody else who did not install anything.

Your audio never reaches our servers. The words do, because a model has to read them to answer. We keep as little as we can, we do not sell any of it, we do not use it to train models, and anything we hold can be deleted from inside the app.

The audio

Speech is transcribed by Speechmatics, and the audio goes to them directly from your browser over an encrypted connection. It does not pass through Autocue at any point. Our server’s only involvement is minting a short-lived key for that one session, which is why we could not intercept the stream even if we wanted to.

When you turn on "capture the other side too", the browser shares a tab or window with you, and that tab’s audio joins the same stream. Nothing else on your screen is captured, and no video is ever sent anywhere.

Speechmatics processes the audio on our behalf, under their own terms. We do not ask them to retain it.

The text

To write an answer, the transcript of the conversation so far — together with whatever you typed into Settings as your role, your background and your notes about the job — is sent to the models that answer. Today those are OpenAI and DeepSeek through their own APIs, or OpenRouter if you switch the API route in Settings.

The same trip is made, with the same content, for the four other things that need a model: predicting the questions they will ask next, working out which speaker is the interviewer, translating the interface into a language we do not ship, and — when you end a session — grading it and giving it a title, which happens without being asked for.

These providers process the text under their own API terms. We do not permit them to use it to train models, and we do not use it to train anything ourselves.

What is stored, and where

Every session — the transcript, the answers, and the feedback written when you ended it — is written to your browser’s local storage as it happens, so that a refresh or a flat battery does not cost you an interview.

While you are signed in and "Keep my interviews on my account" is on, which is its default, the same sessions and your settings are also stored on your account in our backend, so they follow you to another device. Turning that setting off in Settings stops it, and everything stays in the browser you are using.

Your account itself — the identifier from whoever you signed in with, your email address or phone number, your display name and picture if the provider gave us one, your minute balance and the record of what you bought — is stored in our own database. Payments are handled by Stripe: you enter card details on Stripe’s page, not ours, and what we receive back and store is a customer identifier, an amount and a status. We never see a card number.

Our infrastructure runs on Cloudflare, and identity and session storage on Google Firebase. Cloudflare keeps ordinary request logs — IP address, user agent, timestamp — for a short period, for security and diagnostics. We do not build profiles from them.

What we never do

We do not sell or rent your data. There are no advertising trackers and no analytics that follow you off this site. We do not read your interviews, except where you have asked us to look at a specific one to help with a support request. We do not use your interviews, your résumé or your answers to train any model, ours or anyone else’s.

How long it is kept

Sessions stored on your account stay until you delete them. Sessions in your browser stay until you delete them or clear site data. Account and billing records are kept while your account exists, and payment records for as long as tax and accounting rules require after that.

When you delete a session, or the CV you uploaded, it moves to Recently deleted and stays recoverable for 30 days — deleting the wrong interview by mistake should not be final. During that time it is hidden from the app and is no longer used to generate answers. After 30 days it is destroyed automatically, on every device. You can also delete anything immediately with Delete now, which skips the 30 days.

Deleting it

Sessions are deleted from History, one at a time, and your CV from Settings. Both go to Recently deleted first, where Delete now removes them at once; either way the deletion reaches every device you use. Minutes you have paid for are not affected.

There is deliberately no single button that erases everything at once — an irreversible, account-wide delete sitting beside a balance is a control whose likeliest use is by accident. To erase everything, or to close the account and remove the identity and billing records with it, write to us at the address below and we will do it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, to receive a copy in a portable form, or to object to particular processing. History exports any session as Markdown, plain text or JSON without asking anyone. For anything else, write to us and we will answer within thirty days.

The people we use to run the service — Speechmatics, OpenAI, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, Cloudflare, Google and Stripe — operate in several countries, so using Autocue means your data crosses borders.

Other people in the room

An interview has at least two people in it, and only one of them chose this tool. Recording and transcribing a conversation is regulated differently from place to place, and in some of them everyone present has to know. Whether you may record a particular conversation is your decision to make and yours to answer for.

Children

Autocue is for adults looking for work and is not directed at children. Do not use it if you are under 16. If we learn that an account belongs to a child, we delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with it and we say so in the app before the change takes effect.
